CS 373 Fall 2022: Fernando Mercado - Week 5

What did you do this past week?

this last week, I didn't have anything particularly important to work on other than being proactive in my job hunt and a little bit of homework. I also meet with my IDB group and they were all very cool and we came up with some great ideas. I also finally finished my design document for my mobile app I'm working on.

What's in your way?

I fell behind a bit this week for no particular reason but am on my way to being back on track.

What will you do next week?

My group's idea got approved so we will start coding next week. I also begin coding for my mobile app and have an exam to study for.

What did you think of Paper #5: The Single Responsibility Principle?

The paper was really interesting and provided good insight to how we as programmers break problems into smaller ones, dictating how we approach the solution.

What was your experience of reduce and methods vs. functions?

Having been familiar with Python prior to this class, the previous weeks' topics were almost refreshers, but this week it was nice to delve into material that I wasn't already familiar with.

What made you happy this week?

I went to a Mild High Club concert on Saturday and also my kombucha I'm brewing has finally started to form some stringy growths on top (a good thing) which is very exciting. I'm also very happy with my group, and I look forward to getting to know them better over the course of the semester.

What's your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

For mobile app development, or really any kind of development that has a front-end, it can be extremely helpful to draw up a design document that details every screen and every button so that once you start coding, you can just implement that and you're not left thinking about how you're going to implement something.
