What did you do this past week?
This last week I watched some movies for my film class and worked on my iOS app more as well as collatz. I have been in the gym consistently every day, which is a very welcome change of pace since I got out of the habit back in November of last year. I also had to travel back home to Houston this weekend which was both nice and a nuisance.
What's in your way?
This weekend I had to travel to Houston for an unfortunate family event which shook my schedule up quite a bit but I hope to not have fallen behind too much in any of my classes, especially this one.
What will you do next week?
Next week I assume we will be assigned our groups for this class after taking the survey about our availability and experience. I look forward to meeting them and getting started on the next project. Based on the collatz project, a major goal of mine will be to start as early as possible and work as regularly as possible on the assignment. I will also finalize my design document for my app and begin actual coding on the project which is exciting. Another round of movies will also have to be watched for my film class and I will probably rope my roommate into watching them with me this time. Apply to jobs.
What did you think of Paper #3: Continuous Integration?
I think that continuous integration is a really good solution to what is commonly referred to as "Integration Hell" in software development. Not only will it be applicable to the class and future jobs we may have, but in personal projects as well and I will be trying to implement continuous integration in my app development career.
What was your experience of exceptions, lists, tuples and int caching?
None of these topics were particularly foreign to me. I have worked in python before, but understanding the nuance and the way these structures are implemented in the language was eye-opening (particularly int). Int caching was the most interesting thing to me that we covered this week. I will most definitely be implementing the practice in my code anytime I'm able to from now on!
What made you happy this week?
I got to see my family and my dogs when I went home to Houston which is always nice.
What's your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
A YouTuber by the name of Garbaj makes a really good
series about game development and design (particularly FPS game design) with palatable and interesting videos. Really interesting if you're into both games and coding like I am.
